In Chapter one you don’t find an introduction. The reader is immediately confronted with a dramatic family situation: His parents and her boyfriend have just split up. Marcus has the point of view of limited omniscience. He deals with that situation in an unusual way. The dialogue between Marcus and his mother reveals a very close relationship between the two of them. Most strikingly, Marcus seems to be more grown-up and mature than his mum. So one gets the impression that he is a precocious child. Based on Nick Hornby's popular British novel, About A Boy is a comedy about a young man from London called Will Lightman (Hugh Grant).
