"Andrew Jackson vs. The National Bank"
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,” the words which the United Stats was built upon, and the words which President Andrew Jackson above all strove to uphold. This belief in equality drove Jackson to defend the rights of the common man, and in doing so he came up against a formidable opponent in the National Bank. The relationship between Jackson and the National Bank was tumultuous to say the least as both parties fought to institute their respective positions on issues. Eventually the bank needed to renew it’s twenty year charter which was due to expire in 1836, and Henry Clay and Daniel Webster thought it best to request for a renewal in 1832 as to force the request into the spotlight of the upcoming political campaigning.
