a chance occurance (3rd person narrative)
A Chance Occurrence When James Manning awoke one morning in late spring, his head was congested with excitement and fear of the day ahead. James had no idea of what was his plans for the future, what courses he wanted to take in college, what field to major in, whether or not he would marry, to who? These thoughts and questions raced through his mind as he stumbled out of his bed. Seeing the cap and gown dangling from a coat hanger in the closet, James said to himself, “the future can wait, I’m graduating today.” James was a bright kid. He had a high GPA and did well on his SAT’s. He was accepted into the local state college and planned to enter “undeclared” the next fall. He was the type of student that you could take one look at and know he would succeed at anything he put his mind to. James also excelled athletically, playing football, basketball, and baseball for his high school. He toyed with the idea of going on to play a college sport, but never could decide on which one. Mr. Manning was a popular guy, he could not go anywhere without being noticed by someone. He and his friends would get in trouble now and again, but never anything major. James arrived at school that day in his brand new ’76 black Firebird.
