A. Affirmative action is no longer needed. Significant progress has been made and it is now time to return to hiring and firing without regard to race, gender, age, or ethnic background.
I do not agree with this statement because I feel that affirmative action is still needed in the United States. Even though it may look as if it has helped the gap between the majority and the minority there are still more provisions that need to be done. Instead, those in charge wanting to get rid of it should think of more ways they can allow every person in society equal and be given the same opportunities as everyone else. Some of the individuals in the majority may feel that affirmative action is just benefiting the minority and causing some favoritism with that group. One article I found online contradicting this belief of people who feel this way by suggesting, “defenders of affirmative action say that the playing field is not level yet – and that granting modest advantages to minorities and women is more than fair, given hundreds of years of discrimination that benefited whites and men”(Froomkin, 1998).
