As I entered the building I could immediately smell the familiar scent of the freshly made ice. The cool air hit me and sent shivers all through my body. There I found myself, at the Southwestern Regional Championships. It was my first really big competition. My heart was quickly beating in my chest. My hands were nervously shaking as I carried my bag over to a near by bench and set it down. Millions of thoughts began to run through my head. I decided to clear my mind and I began to prepare myself for my upcoming competition. I started to stretch and warm myself up. I then began to practice my jump rotations. I caught sight of my coach walking towards me out of the corner of my eye. He gave me a pat on the back, told me to relax, and gave me a big smile. He gave me some inspiring words to help settle my nerves. Momentarily it seemed to work, until I began to get ready for my warm up group. As I sat down and began to pull my skates out of my bag and start to lace them up I notice my hands shaking again. This time was different however, this time I was scared to death to take a single step out onto the ice. As the time drew near for my warm up group to take the ice, I started pacing back and worth thinking to myself that only the worst could come of this.
