May 1 Kimberly May Mrs. Marquelle Jackson Chapman Humanities 1301 18 March 2003. “Network” Directed by Sidney Lumet, the movie “Network” cast Peter Finch as Howard Beale, William Holden as Max Schumacher and Faye Dunaway as Diana Christensen. This movie satirizes the invasive role of the mass media in everyday life. Howard Beale finds out from his friend network executive Max Schumacher that he is going to be relieved of his duties from the network simply because of his age. In his next broadcast Beale announces to the viewers that he is going to commit suicide on his last night. Programming executive Diana Christensen sees this as an opportunity to receive high ratings and encourages the network to let him continue. In this final broadcast Beale does not go through with it, instead he rambles on about the awful state of the world. Beale then tells his audience, “stick your head out your window and yell, I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!”(“Network”) The movie was released in 1976 and is known as a black comedy.
