The location of Uluru is 300 km south west of Alice Springs. 25กใ 20' S 131กใ 2' E. The natural feature of the site is the high, isolated rock, which rises 350 metres above an almost featureless plain. This rock was the remain of a once larger rock which has been eroded over many millions of years, by wind, and rain. Surrounding Uluru are natural vegetation of scattered scrubs and stunted trees. Plants that the aboriginals take advantage of are Mulga tree, which they use to make spears and they grind the mulga seeds to make flour. Witchetty bush, which also grows on mulga flats are dug up to take out the witchetty grubs. Eremophila bush, which the aborigines suck nectar from the base of the flower. Gyrostemon tree provides lightweight timber for carving carrying dishes. Other plants that also grow in the area are Spinifex, desert oaks, emu-poison bush and light scrubs.
